Plot Window

The plot window is used to display line plot outputs from EdGCM. These include Time Series and Zonal Averages. Open the files and select the variables and times with the data browser.

Controls

The plot window does not have an associated toolbar. The controls to modify the plot are either embedded in the window below the plot or are performed by manipulating the plot itself.

If you would like to see the numeric (raw) data of the plot, select Show Data from the Window menu.

Manipulating the Plot

You can modify the plot itself in the following ways:

  • Click on the title and type to change the title
  • Click and hold, then drag, the legend to change the location of the legend
  • Click and hold, then drag, the x and y axis titles to move them

Plot Window Controls

The plot window controls allow you to customize the plot. There are two types of controls:

  1. Global controls
  2. Line plot controls

Global Plot Controls

The global controls effect the entire plot. They can be used to set the min/max of the x/y axis, the number of ticks per axis, the foreground and background color, etc.

The ^v and <> buttons attempt to auto-range the plot around the visible data in the y and x axes respectively.

Line Plot Controls

The plot line controls do not effect the entire plot, they only effect an individual line. Each line in the plot has its own line of controls below. Each line can have the following modifications:

  • The line can be turned on or off via the Show checkbox
  • The color of the line can be customized
  • The legend text of the line can be changed
  • The thickness of the line can be modified
